Talking My Language

Kermode expresses an intelligent outsider’s view of gaming. If you follow the perpetual media circus surrounding game violence, it’s pretty obvious those involved don’t play games (e.g. Jack Thompson/Keith Vaz). It’s not only that these anti gaming campaigners don’t understand the language and convention of games. I think they are probably somewhat detached from contemporary culture (that’s my own narrow minded generalisation), and consequently are ill equipped to interpret the caricatured world which many games present.
